Sora is now released to anyone with a ChatGPT Pro account!
Make and edit videos via generative AI!
Sora is a new AI video generation tool from OpenAI. It is available to anyone with a ChatGPT Plus Pro account and is currently available in most countries, but not in Europe and the UK (I'll explain why in another tip). Sora is still under development and may make mistakes or not generate exactly as desired. It will refuse to generate anything it deems copyrighted or under 18 years old.
Sora has a number of key features and capabilities, including the ability to generate videos from simple text descriptions, animate still images into videos, edit and manipulate existing videos, create complex video sequences with multiple actions and scenes, apply different artistic styles to videos, and create seamless loops and blend multiple videos together.
Sora has a number of potential applications, including creative expression, education and training, marketing and advertising, and film and animation. However, it is important to use Sora responsibly and ethically, as it has the potential to be misused. What does this mean for us when we can no longer believe the images and videos we see!
Here's the official OpenAI demo and showcase of it!
The video demonstrates what you can do:
- Generate videos from text descriptions
- Animate still images into videos
- Edit and manipulate existing videos
- Create complex video sequences with multiple actions and scenes
- Apply different artistic styles to videos
- Create seamless loops and blend multiple videos together
Marques Brownlee has also covered it here:
Here are his main points:
- Sora is a powerful tool that can generate realistic videos. It can create videos of people, objects, and scenes that are difficult to distinguish from real videos.
- Sora has some limitations. It struggles with physics and object permanence. For example, objects may disappear or reappear unexpectedly, or they may move in unrealistic ways.
- Sora is best suited for creating abstract videos, cartoons, and stop-motion animations. It is not as good at creating realistic videos.
- Sora is a powerful tool that has the potential to be misused. It could be used to create deepfakes or other harmful content.
- Sora is a valuable tool for creative expression. It can be used to create unique and interesting videos that would be difficult or impossible to create with traditional methods.
Overall, Sora is a powerful and versatile tool but he ends the video explaining that it has the potential to be both beneficial and harmful. It is important to be aware of its limitations and to use it responsibly.
